About

Handiworks was established in the early 1980’s when a group of citizens in Nipawin and area felt that there was a need to provide services for members of the community who have an intellectual disability.

1984

In 1984 the first Workshop opened with six participants and later that year our first six resident group home.

1988

In 1988 we added the operation of the Sarcan Nipawin Depot shortly followed by Sarcan Tisdale.

We've grown to include four group homes, a Day Program with a woodworking shop, developmental program, commercial kitchen, and an expanded retail store. We continue to operate two Sarcan depots and have added new ventures like Tackle Tyme HW and Brown Bag Lunch. All programs provide participants with valuable employment and life skills.

Our Motto

Enriching lives in a supportive environment.

Our Mission

We provide a diverse range of services to adults with intellectual disabilities that are responsive to our shared human needs for acceptance, belonging, and personal growth.

Our Vision

Creating one community.

Group Homes

We provide 24 hour staff support to the 19 residents in our four group homes. Two of our group homes contain supported independent living suites that supply housing for 4 other participants.

Our Partners

Community Living Service Delivery (CLSD) is a branch of the Ministry of Social Services. CLSD staff work with agencies such as PLUS Industries to support people experiencing intellectual disabilities. In partnership, we work to ensure that the physical, emotional and social needs of people experiencing intellectual disabilities are met and that they are able to live as independently as possible within their own communities.

The Ministry of Social Services provides financial support to agencies such as PLUS Industries to ensure positive outcomes for people with disabilities.  Ministry officials and staff provide leadership and consultation to ensure participants reach their goals of independence and integration into the community.

SARC (Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres)

SARC is a provincial association that provides services to non-profit organizations such as PLUS Industries to support their work with adults experiencing an intellectual disability. SARC has five decades of experience in supporting non-profits in the areas of training, consulting, and leadership services.

Nipawin & District Services to the Handicapped Inc. (Handi-Works) owns and operates the Nipawin and Tisdale SARCAN depots.  The depots are part of a province wide network that is authorized to collect levy containers.
